In plain words
So when we enquire into humanness in this good and bad, this good and bad depend on their wish, and not on the thing as it really is.
Man must make the effort needed to take noble feelings into his heart and experience Ānanda. Man must develop Prema within himself. Giving and forgiving: through these alone does our thought of Prema grow. Through getting, and through forgetting it, selfishness grows. Forgetting a kindness done is the very root cause of the growth of selfishness. So when we want to develop Prema, we must develop these two, forgiveness and giving.
Students! At this tender age you believe that the human mind has no value. Humanness is very precious. It is sacred. It is divine, and worthy to be lived. It is because we live such a life today with the narrow feeling called selfishness that distaste for life enters us. There are a great many lessons we have to learn. To recognise the principle that is Satya in daily life, we must go on learning one lesson every moment. We must see that impurity does not enter the mind. Even if evil feelings enter the heart, we must try to send them out. Only then does our sacred citta reach the highest state. Dakṣiṇāmūrti's is an exposition in silence. It is not a teaching taught in words. By his look alone he made one recognise the principle of the universe and the spiritual sense. Once, while travelling, he came to the seashore. He saw the ocean sounding with the sound of Oṃ and was very happy. Śabda Brahman is truly the ocean. The waves alone are the root cause of the sea.
The lily is the beauty of the pond, the moon is the beauty of the sky, the waves are the beauty of the ocean, good character is the beauty of man, vibhūti on the forehead is the beauty of devotees,
he said. Dakṣiṇāmūrti too regarded the waves as the beauty of the ocean. That is, the principle of God is an ocean, an ideal for beings of every kind. He compared this worldly life to the ocean. Just as in the ocean the waves rise one upon another, so in worldly life troubles come one upon another.
