Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

None of this learning is in your textbooks. These teachings have had to be given to you to teach the path of Satya that daily life needs. Study these subjects for your jobs. But recognise that these studies too are essential for daily life.

Students! You can think this over well. You go to the laboratories. You carry out many experiments. In whichever of the physics, chemistry and biology given you, you are able to grasp only the fitting answer: which chemicals mixed give which colour, which chemicals are to be mixed in what way. But where are you able to settle all this, right or wrong? Only in a laboratory are you able to settle it. But in daily life, how do you find out which step you take is right and which is wrong? You make no attempt to know. Only the things of this world have you kept in mind all the time. There is a great gap between the studies you pursue and the time you spend in daily life. I have said it before. That there are five kinds of knowledge. This bookish knowledge today tomorrow knowledge day after tomorrow allergy. Relying on this, you are sinking into superficial knowledge. Through this superficial knowledge, general knowledge is becoming zero. When General knowledge becomes zero, that discrimination knowledge does nothing at all. When you enter only into Discrimination knowledge, how then will practical knowledge come? The world needs practical knowledge today. If you mix the two, two parts of hydrogen and one part of oxygen, it becomes water. This you can learn only in the laboratory. But when you sit down to a meal, do you mix hydrogen and oxygen and drink? This is practical science. In daily life, how pure the water should be. It must taste right. There must be no impurity in it. You look to such things, and then you drink. So in daily life there should be no faults in our conduct. We must savour it with relish at the right time. Life is full of flavour.

A small example. You have sat down to a meal. You have mixed in the dal. There is a little too much salt in this dal. Just because there is a little too much salt in the dal, you angrily push aside at once the dal that will be gone in two hours.
