Passage 7

In plain words

You grow very irritated that the dal has too much salt. If a little too much salt in dal that is digested in two hours displeases you, should there not be a little flavour in a life meant to last 80 years, 90 years, 100 years? Should it not have some value? Do we not recognise the Satya of how much the world will criticise us if we fail to keep our discipline properly? This too you must inquire into in daily life. You have packed all your luggage, gone to the Bus stand and sat down. You thought the bus would come at five o'clock. Six o'clock, seven, eight, nine. Still the bus has not come. What do you think? You curse the bus driver. You curse that whole department. You curse the government. What wretched travel this is. There is no discipline of any kind. Buses do not come on time, trains do not come on time. Planes do not come on time. So you abuse them in many ways. If you abuse them so much when an inert bus or an inert car does not come properly on time, then when you, a living, conscious human being, do not keep your own order, your own rules, your own discipline properly, will this world not abuse you? Are you keeping your own discipline properly? Where is your right to abuse these buses and trains? So first of all we must pass in that discipline. We must enter into every task. We must not lie asleep in laziness. Whatever disciplines there are in our hostel or our college, we must follow them to the letter. At 4-30 in the early morning we must enter into the Suprabhātam, into the Oṃkāra. If you cannot do even these tasks, yours becomes merely a life with no breath in it.

Students! Recognise this well. There is a machine. If that machine cannot work properly, if it goes unused, it rusts away. As an inert machine rusts when it lies unused, why should this conscious machine not rust if you do not use it in the right way? That is rust. How did rust come? Because it went unused, all the dust came and settled on it. This very dust turned into this rust. By the time this rust comes, all its strength is gone. Then you take it to the workshop for repair. Only when you oil it properly does it become best. When does it become best? Only when you take off all the dust and rust in it is it at its best.
