In plain words
So when you all want to be best boys, what must you do? So that the rust in you, the evil feelings that have entered you, the dust, this fickleness of the mind, all of these may go, you must offer them to God. That very place is the workshop. That itself is the Rest. When you receive that Rest there in full, you become a best boy. Otherwise you become a worst boy. ‘Best or worst, which am I to be?’ one must inquire of oneself. Students! We started this Institute in the hope that the children formed in the Sathya Sai Institute would go into the world and become ideals along many kinds of paths. This is not a gurukula āśrama. It is a ṛṣikula āśrama. Ṛṣi āśramas were there all through the past, but gradually, as modern ways advanced, that ṛ sound went. In place of ṛ they say ‘iṣikulaṃ, iṣikulaṃ’. That iṣikulaṃ has now become ‘iskūlu’. Even the kula has gone. What stands in the sand and falls down: iskūlu. Our life is turning into mere sand. Today we must again develop this ṛṣikula.
Ṛta means the Satya of the mind. Nijamu means worldly Satya. The Satya of the body. Ṛta is the Satya of the mind. Today we have lost the Satya of the mind. We must restore it again. That is the very work we must do today. Students! I do not say you should not study your subject at all. Pass in that too. In that too, reach a proper standing. But along with that you must develop this too, as something essential. If you go on wiping these bulbs and wiping these fans for any length of time, and there is no current, what is the use of having them all? All your subjects are bulbs, fans, stoves and the like. When the current of the spiritual enters them, all of these become useful. Knowledge without action is foolish. Action without knowledge is useless. So we must develop a fitting bond between the two. Only when you develop the spiritual outlook does it make the worldly useful too. When you look at the world outside, you can reflect on how dishonourable life is becoming. Humanness itself is missing.
Students! You must become human beings. You must go into the world outside and clean away the dirt that has gathered there.
