In plain words
Is it not the Christians? They praise their own religions, but they do not practise them, do they? It is very good for each to respect his own religion. It is good to respect other religions too. If you do not like to respect them, keep quiet. But do not criticise it. To develop broad feeling of this kind is the most urgent need in the students of today. The students of today are the ones who will uplift the Bhārata of the future. You must hold no hatred or difference towards anyone or towards any religion. The essence in all religions is one. Know this. This is the Sanātana Dharma.
All of you know this. They take a mosambi. They take out all its juice. They take the juice of the rotten ones. They take the juice of the unripe ones. They take it from the well-ripened ones. They put all the juices together. They put all the juices together and set it out as a drink called Rex. Is the juice of each fruit there on its own? So, the juices are all the juice of compassion. In it there is no juice of hatred, no juice of grief, no juice of sorrow. When you take them one by one, there is sour juice. There is sweet juice. There is astringent juice. Then there is rotten juice too. By the time all the juices come together, it turns into the juice of compassion. The paths too may be different. So, just because the paths are different, there is no change at all in the sweetness that is in it. If the sugar cane is crooked, is the sweetness crooked? It is always the one juice. In the same way, your minds may be crooked like this, but in religions there are no faults of any kind.
All religions are different, the path is one; the cloths differ, the stuff is one; the ornaments differ, the gold is one; the colours of cattle differ, the milk is one; living creatures differ, the life in them is one; castes and their codes differ, birth is one.
One coming from a mother's womb, another suddenly dropping from the sky: there is nothing of the kind. All are equal in birth. If we want to attain divinity, there is only one divinity. That one divinity goes on being reflected in everything. Each religion is like a vessel. Just as the sun is reflected in all the vessels, the vessels may be of lower or higher value. But the value of the sun reflected in those vessels cannot be raised or lowered. It stays just the same.
