In plain words
For the Artha-śāstra this Cāṇakya is the authority.
Then comes the Kāma-śāstra. The Kāma-śāstra simply means developing the power of desire. He laid down how one should develop this desire and how one should make it pure. Vātsyāyana is the author of this Kāma-śāstra. For each śāstra one person has stood as its authority. Manu for the Dharma-śāstra, Cāṇakya for the Artha-śāstra, Vātsyāyana for the Kāma-śāstra: these three are great exemplary men. But they have nourished all three in particular as leaning each on the other, as a mutual support. Artha comes only in keeping with Dharma. We must earn wealth in the form of Dharma. We must nurture it on the path of Dharma. We must enjoy it on the path of Dharma. Only then does this Artha gain its true worth. So we must develop Artha only with Dharma in view. We must enjoy it. Kāma means the power of desire, desire. These desires too: we must enjoy our longings only in keeping with Dharma and Artha. We must not enjoy this Kāma against Dharma or against Artha. Only the power of desire enjoyed in keeping with Dharma and Artha bears fruit. In short, Dharma, Artha and Kāma are man's chief life-breaths. From ancient times men have followed this and have nourished their humanness. But Artha and Kāma, and Dharma, keep changing somewhat with the times. Everything changes under the influence of place, time and circumstance.
It is 45 years since the Second World, World War ended. It ended in 1945. In short, just at that time a man called Drucker began writing about management. In the light of the conditions of that time they came to believe that management was right. Within management Drucker developed only a kind of negative. After the World War conditions changed a great deal in each country. In the conditions of that time all these businesses belonged only to their own countries. Gradually, making some change in this, making a few changes, a man called Chrysler Corporation started another management. He kept production alone as his aim. Through production simply to earn money: that alone he took as his aim. In production, in what they call business, in management, they regard everything as merely lifeless. What is the root cause of our behaving a little carelessly in this business?
