In plain words
The reflection of the sun is seen in a pot. Whether the pot is there or not, whether the water is there or not, whether the water is still or not, the sun's reflection does not suffer in the least. That reflection is always there. When there is water, it is seen. When there is no water, it is not seen. The Ātma is everywhere. In one who has purity of citta it is reflected clearly. Now, what is the root cause of unsteadiness? Now the sun's reflection is seen in the water. Now, when that water is steady, the image of the sun is steady too. But if the water stirs a little, the reflection moves too. But the real sun is not moving. Because the water in which the reflection lies is moving, we think the sun too is moving. But God is not one who moves. Without attributes, without stain, eternal, the abode, ever pure, awake and spotless in form. He is always unmoving.
In the culture of Bhārata they said that Īśvara dwells on Kailāsa. Where is this Kailāsa? In the Himācala, they said. What does Himācala mean? Hima means coolness. Acala means that which does not move. Hima means Śānti in our heart. That Śānti itself is the coolness. When it stays unmoving, that is acala. So Himācala means this: our heart itself, most sacred, pure and still, is Himācala. It is there that Īśvara is. So we need not go to some Ṛṣikeś. Hima: sacred, coolness; acala: that which does not waver. A mind that does not waver, a vision that does not stray. A steady feeling: that is our heart. God dwells right there. So God is not somewhere far away. It is because our mind wavers that these reflections seem to waver.
This is something students must grasp well. Even when the one born is a child, the word "I" is right there. Even when he is an old man, the "I" is there. From childhood to old age the body keeps changing, but this "I" does not change. That unchanging ‘I’ is you. This childhood, youth and old age change. But the word "I" has no connection at all with childhood, youth or old age. This "I" is in everyone. So the "I" that is in everyone is the Ātma. So their forms and names may be different. Look: waking, dream, deep sleep. This waking, dream and deep sleep change. The one in the waking state is I. The one in the dream is I. The one in deep sleep is I. Waking, dream and deep sleep changed, but the ‘I’ did not change. So whatever does not change, that is you.
