In plain words
… they set up a cow as Sītā and a bull as Śrī Rāma and make them play today. That is what 'the pointed goad telling his name' is for. With a thorn-stick they make them practise in many ways. To fit his words, … the animal nods its head. He keeps on talking. 'O mother, Sītamma, Rāmacandra is …. No one in this world has his beauty. Dharma itself has taken on his form. Will you marry such a holy Paramātma?' he asks. They train it for this. Then what does it say? It nods its head. It says, 'I will marry him.' Then after that: 'Mother, Śrī Rāmacandra, saying … is Dharma, gives up the very kingdom and goes away. If you look at his colour, it is a dark, black colour. He was not one to stay as a …. Taking the people's welfare as his own welfare, he gives up even his wife and children and goes away. A great renouncer. So will you marry him?' And it says, 'No.' On this Sankrānti day they act out many plays … the jīvātma and the Paramātma. They act them out even with animals. This Sankrānti day is a day for contemplating the Paramātma, together with the animals, the birds and the beasts.
This month of Puṣya gives great strength. It gives mental, physical and spiritual strength. In the very name Uttarāyaṇa there are divine inner meanings. It is journeying toward God. It is turning the mind toward God. Humanness finds its fulfilment only when all three, the strength of body, mind and spirit, are well content. If body and mind are strong but there is no spiritual strength, you cannot attain Śānti at all. Even when one is well in body and in spirit, if one is not well in mind, then too one cannot attain fullness. And if one is well in mind and in spirit but the body is weak, then too we can do nothing. So health is the greatest wealth. Health is the chief thing for Dharma, artha, kāma and mokṣa. If your health is not right, you cannot even lift a rose lying close by and put it to one side. When you are healthy, you can lift even a big bundle and set it aside. If we want to gain health: from the time the sun enters the line of Makara at this Sankrānti, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and proteins are gained from these rays of the sun. In this sun there are helium and hydrogen. This helium puts fire out. Hydrogen makes fire blaze. Such opposites are in the sun. Through the radiance of this sun alone, in this world, trees, crops, fruits, cattle, seasons and days all have the means to change in many ways. In every human being there are these four: oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon. If even one of these four is missing, a human being cannot be complete. These four powers come from the sun itself.
