Passage 12

In plain words

For many years Vibhīṣaṇa went on doing Rāma's … . But he took no part in Rāma's work. Through the friendship he made with Hanumān, through Hanumān's satsaṅga, he entered into Rāma's work. Because he entered into Rāma's work, he was able to see Rāma. Merely saying ‘Bhakti, Bhakti’ is saying it is in the stomach. Think so, and the cooking is still in the kitchen: will your stomach fill just because you want it filled? The cooking in the kitchen must be taken into the stomach. So, just as we do the Name, we must also take part in Sāi's work, in Sāi's service. If he only remembers the Name without doing any service, he is just like a gramophone plate. Whatever result such a gramophone gets, that same result is yours. The gramophone plate cries. The one who listens listens, but to the gramophone plate … do not come. This is lifeless prayer. So if we are to be life full, we must do karma. What has the body come for? It has come for doing karma. Why must we do karma? To make time holy. Why must we make time holy? Time is the very form of God. Time is God. We must do karma so as to make good use of time, which is the very form of God. It is for doing karma that the body has come. ‘Karmānu bandhīni manuṣya loke’: we must put the body into karma. Enough now.
