In plain words
They have also been calling it by another name, kṣetra. The body called kṣetra; the one who recognises it is the kṣetrajña. You are only the one who recognises the kṣetra, not the body that is recognised. Since you are the one who recognises, you must remain as its witness. You must remain as the master fit to enjoy it in its right use. You must keep it in a very holy condition. Kāśī is called a kṣetra. Badarī is called a kṣetra. Tirupati is called a kṣetra. What is the inner meaning of using this word kṣetra? There, it is filled with an atmosphere bound up with God. Because it is a holy place, it has come to bear the fitting name kṣetra. In that kṣetra, worship, good deeds, mantras, vows and the like go on all the time. In just the same way, from this kṣetra called the body, you must make it take part in such services as good deeds, good conduct and good thoughts. To lead it into good deeds: this alone is the true inner meaning of kṣetra.
There is a second meaning to kṣetra. The second meaning is a field. Whatever seeds we sow in this field, that alone is the fruit we get. When we sow the seeds of good resolves, we get good fruit. When we sow the seeds of bad resolves, it is bad fruit of one kind or another that we keep getting. This kṣetra called the body is the very place where the seeds of sin and merit are sown. In the worldly world, in worldly lands, in what is done in a worldly way, we keep looking for the right season and the right condition. Such and such seeds must be sown in such and such a season. That is the method. There is also a rule about which crop is to be planted in which field. You cannot scatter seeds in that field whenever you please. It has its time fixed. But inside this field called the śarīra there is no fixed time. It can be cultivated at every time and in every condition alike. You can cultivate it by night and by day alike. When seeds are sown in outer fields, the crops may ripen, or else they may wither. We may not be able to get the fruits we hoped for. But the crop of the good resolves and bad resolves sown in this śarīra, whatever you do, will never fail.
