In plain words

Of the 84 lakh species born in the world, 83 lakh 99 thousand 999 live on their own natural food. Beasts, birds and animals take the natural food God has given them. They are not stricken with many illnesses at all. But only through the craving of the tongue has man grown addicted to many tastes, and he keeps turning his food into contrived diets. It has to be cooked. For my taste I want all the kurmas. But he does not stop to think how much of his span of life is burning away. Here too, of those who eat for the sake of food, those who eat vegetables get fewer illnesses. Those who eat meat without vegetables get more illnesses. What is the reason? For man, a balanced food gives the right balance. This is human body. That is animal body. These two do not fit together properly. Doctors keep saying something or other. 'All the proteins are in this; eat it, and you will grow sturdy.' That is nothing but their weakness. Is there no protein in the milk we drink? Is there no protein in curd? Is there no protein in cashews? Protein is everywhere. These increase not only illness of the body but illness of the mind as well. So if you ask how our mind goes: food head God, these three are closely bound together. Because we eat this animal food, animal thoughts begin in us. You see! As the food, so the feeling. So when people today live an inhumanity that goes against our humanness, how dreadful it is! The mind of man is sinking lower than the beasts that roam the forests. Without mercy, without feeling, without love, it does violence to humanness. Between man and man itself the close bond of kinship is being lost. The reason is nothing but the fault in our food.

Students! You must keep food and your way of living in the right view. We must enquire which food gives right health or joy. The ancients ate twice a day. The great ṛṣis ate only once a day. One who eats once, they said, is a yogī. One who eats twice, they said, is a bhogī.
