Passage 1

In plain words

Those who make a sacrifice of their very lives, souls of Dharma, there are upon this earth. Those who, seeking the comfort of others, gave themselves up as an offering, there are, even in this age. The pleasures of this world, ever, even in a dream, those who never murmur after them, there are in the world. But who, curbing the body and the senses and holding them still, turning the mind within, unceasingly, standing today with citta unmoving in samādhi, render the service of Satya: are there any such? Heaven is not somewhere apart, in the world of the gods; it is set in the very world of men. With good qualities and right conduct, why seek heaven? This itself becomes heaven.

Human beings make many efforts to know everything in the world. But they do not make the effort it takes to know themselves. To know all things they have used their earlier time in many ways, but to know himself man finds no time. However much one has studied, however great one's power of intellect, whatever positions one has held, however wealthy one is, without knowing oneself, Śānti and happiness are not to be had.

The sixty-four arts that Nārada learned so wondrously well, yet he found no boundless Śānti, nor could he himself attain the supreme Ānanda.
