In plain words
Refusing the command, to … Brahmā the grandsire: is that possible? This is the root cause of the unrest in man today. … they want, but they are not ready at all to walk by God's command. They pray, ‘God, You alone …,’ but how far … to walk by the command of the all-pervading God? For man sinking under the disease of worldly existence, the Name of God is the very medicine. But the one who … the medicine must also keep to the diet. That diet is the command. Man today, when he takes the medicine, gives up the …. When he keeps the diet, he gives up the medicine. That is why man today is tormented in this … disease. Here God Himself is the medicine. God's command is the diet …; only when you keep the diet while taking the medicine does your unrest go far from you. That is why today's … sinks, more or less, in unrest. He frets. He collapses. These … this is it. They long for God. They break God's command. Nārada … of that time, though he was remembering Nārāyaṇa, the cause of this unrest was nothing but Brahmā's curse. ‘… you do not keep the command, and that is why you are falling into unrest,’ he said.
That is the teaching Sanatkumāra gave. ‘Nārada! Though you study the Vedas and the Vedāṅgas, though you read the śāstras, though you perform rites of charity and Dharma, though you do holy works such as yajñas and yāgas, without knowing yourself you cannot gain peace of mind. Though one worships and adores the Avatāras such as Rāma and Kṛṣṇa, though one offers prayers of every kind, without knowing oneself, true Ānanda does not come to him. For the sake of Mukti man performs many kinds of sādhana.
Seeking Mukti, man, to the three crore gods, may offer worship, but he does not attain it; if he slays the ego within himself, maṅkti, is not Mukti here on earth itself?
So, Nārada! However many books you read, they only give bhukti; Mukti they do not …. They give worldly honour and regard, fame and standing, but they cannot give Mukti. Only śāstra. Śāstra. Śāstra. This thing called śāstra is a dense and fearful forest. In it there are many words. There are many kinds of meanings. Which meaning is right and which meaning is not right is very hard to make out.
