Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So it is through them alone that we enjoy, today, all our comforts and all our joys. Prakṛti means nothing but the power of society. So we must give this society the gratitude it deserves.

For that purpose the path of service holds the chief place in the Sathya Sai Organisations. It was with this very thing in view that the service organisations were begun. These services must be turned into divine services. Do not think of this as some artificial path. Do not think of it as compulsory. You must take part in service with love and with all your heart, and whomever you serve, you must believe, 'I am doing it for my God', and do it. True freedom from Ahaṅkāra in service is to be seen plainly in our Sathya Sai Organisations alone. If this Ahaṅkāra is to die, true Prema must grow. Today so many thousands have come here; though at home they have so many conveniences, so many comforts and so many pleasures, they have given all of them up, and to live here bearing and enduring so many hardships, so many troubles and so many discomforts is itself a great tapas. The feeling of one Ātma in all is not to be seen in any organisation. It is seen in the Sathya Sai Organisations alone. People of so many countries, of so many religions, of so many languages, all gathering in this place, keeping to one another like brothers and sisters, coming together in one spot with affection and sharing joy: this befits the Sathya Sai Organisations alone. Embodiments of Prema! You must make a firm vow that we will develop this principle of Prema still more and be shaped into guides for this world. Only then shall we be those who have truly proved the word of the Upaniṣad. To call ourselves members of the service organisations and stay away from service, to kill what is called unity, and to keep joy alone as the chief aim, is not right. Wherever one is, one must do service to the full content of one's heart. You must not think that we are doing it for someone or for some reason. You must believe that you are doing it for your own sake. That alone is the contentment of the Ātma: so Vedānta has always said.
