In plain words

In the same way, because worldly matters get mixed into the wholly pure principle of Prema, this pure Prema becomes impure and tainted to some extent. When this tainted Prema is scoured in selfless service, the taint goes and it takes shape as pure Prema.

Truly, what is man's birthplace? Where was he born from? What was he born for? Where is he? It is most essential to enquire into this matter. But as a rule, man's sight takes shape only as worldly sight. If you ask where these trees were born from, every man says they were born from the earth. This is not the right answer. They were born from the seed, not from the earth. There is earth in the desert too. But do trees come up there? The reason is that there are no seeds there. So, just as the seed is the root and basis of the tree, man has come forth from the seed called manuja. Because he was born from Manu, he got the name manuja. Every man, without exception, comes of the line of Manu. Manu is of the line of the ṛṣis. A ṛṣi is one of supreme Jñāna. The principle of the ṛṣi is the very form of self-luminous Jñāna. But what is the reason that man, who came forth from self-luminous Jñāna, lives in Ajñāna? He has forgotten his own home. He has forgotten his own true nature. He has sunk himself in this outward stuff of the world. That is why man is meeting with this kind of sorrow. Unable to understand the pure principle of Prema, he goes through this body in many ways.

A man in water up to his throat can speak. But a man fully sunk in water cannot speak. In the same way, one sunk in full Prema cannot give any description. Only those who float on the waves at the surface try to describe it. So in what way can the divine principle be described? In what way can this divinity be seen? There is one root cause of this. To some, divinity is revealed. Some, whatever sādhanas they do, are not blessed with its revelation. What is the reason? There are japa-mālās of many kinds. There are japa-mālās of rudrākṣa. There are mālās of lotus seeds. There are some of coral. The thread strung through these beads is not seen by anyone. But the thread strung through a crystal alone is seen. There is a thread in all of them. But what is seen is seen in the crystal alone. In the same way, in all beings the thread called the Brahma-sūtra is present equally. Only in the wholly pure crystal called full Prema is this divinity, which is the thread, seen.
