Students! Your heart is a great lock. It cannot be opened with just any key. It is very secure. Our mind is its key. Put this key called the mind into the lock called the heart: turn it to the right side, open. Turn it to the left side, lock. In the same way, if we turn towards the world, it is attachment, bondage. If we turn it towards Divinity, it is detachment. So the difference between attachment and detachment is our turning. same lock, same key. Because we go into the out look, we all fall into bondage. We must develop inner sight. This is true education. Along with this education, we need worldly education too. I am not saying you should not study these subjects. Whatever you do, you must do it with śraddhā. The secret of happiness is not in doing what one likes but in liking what one has to do. We must do every task with Prema. If you say, I do with Prema only the work I like, that is not the right way to work. Whatever you do, do it with Prema and care. Whatever work you do, do it as a sādhana, as a kind of offering. Work will be transformed into worship. So we are serving the country. We are showing an ideal for raising our country to a higher level.
Students! For being born, for getting an education, for living in Bhārata, you must bring your parents a good name. Students! In our culture of Bhārata there are the chief traditions: Mātṛdevo bhava, Pitṛdevo bhava, Ācāryadevo bhava, Atithidevo bhava. However great you become, even if you become Prime Minister, to your mother you are still her son. So first of all you must honour your mother. You must honour your father. But the world will never honour a person who cannot honour even his parents. Students! Each of you must sit in silence and inquire. Your blood, your food, your head, your money: parents' gift. First you must give gratitude to your parents. Many students today do not give their parents gratitude. Even bad parents do not accept it. Looking at their parents, they treat them merely as a kind of friends. Parents too must not accept this kind of thing. The reason is that the parents are ruining that child's life in the future.
