In plain words
All of you know this. I am taking a long time.
Premchand was a great poet. There are fine ideals in his works. He had two sons. They were studying in Allahabad. This Premchand was travelling by train with his wife. On the way he wrote a letter to the children, saying that they should come to the station and see them. The younger son and the elder son came to the station. The elder son came. He said, “Mother, namaskāra; Father, namaskāra.” This second son, what did he do? With both hands in his pockets: “How are you mummy, How are you daddy.” he said. He gave neither a namaskāra nor respect. At once Premchand's mind felt a great shock. He asked after their welfare, how they were getting on with their studies. The train moved off. The elder son stood doing namaskāra until the train had gone. This younger son was saying, “Ta-ta, ta-ta.” Well, the train went off. The children went away. Premchand grew very restless. He was very restless. He went to the bathroom and came back. He went again. He was very uneasy. His wife asked, “What is it?” “Why are you so uneasy?” Premchand said: “Did you see? The little one did not do namaskāra to us.” “The little one did not give us respect,” he said. She said: “He is only a child, he does not know.” “Why do you worry so much about it?” Then he spread out his bed. He lay down. “Did you see? Our little one did not do namaskāra to us,” he said. In this way Premchand kept saying it again and again. His wife: “Why? What loss has come to us because he did not do namaskāra?” “You must not grieve so much,” she said. “It is not for my own sake that I am grieving.” “His future is being ruined,” said Premchand. The student who gives respect to his parents today is the one who will enjoy a fine ideal in the future. That is just what came true. The elder son passed the Bar at Law and became a judge of the Allahabad High Court. Everyone who came did namaskāra to that elder son. This younger son was doing a clerk's work in that same Allahabad. He was doing namaskāra to everyone who came. Do you see? The student who gave respect to his parents receives the namaskāras of all. The son who would not give respect to his parents gives namaskāras to all.
