In plain words
This is the big circle that is whole. Inside this circle there is a small circle. Inside that circle there is yet another small circle. That small circle is the body; that bigger circle is the mind. The biggest circle of all is the Ātma. The Ātma's circle never changes. Making this small circle, this thing called the body, wider and wider, we must enter a wide feeling. Widening this small circle, we must enter the middle circle. We must join the mind. Making this mind, too, a wide mind, we must merge in the Ātma. Only then do we attain the oneness of all. A small example. There is a clock. A wall clock. Inside it there are three hands. The first is the second hand, the second is the minute hand, the third is the hours hand. Which is the chief one for us? Without the Hour hand, there is no use in having the second hand. Without the seconds hand, there is no use in having the hours hand. All three are needed. But among these three hands, which is the chief hand? The seconds hand. It goes on travelling sixty houses. By the time it has travelled sixty houses, the minute hand travels one house. By the time the minute hand has travelled sixty houses, the hours hand travels one house. Our body itself is a wall clock. When we do many good karmas in this body, as its seconds, the mind reaches a sacred place. Only when this mind carries out many good thoughts does the Ātma reach the one sacred place. So only when we carry out good karmas in the body, and in the mind good thoughts, does the Ātma reach the level of Ānanda. For the Ātma to reach the state of Praśānti, these good karmas and good thoughts are most necessary. Without the Hour hand, the minutes hand and the seconds hand are of no use. So in the world there are two true things that give it meaning. Earth, sky, light. That is, earth, the heavens, light. These three are the support of every living being. Without both, support and food, there is no living being at all. Wherever the Ātma is, there water and air are. The Ātma may be without water and air, but water and air cannot be without the Ātma. The Ātma is without attributes, stainless, eternal, the abode, of the form ever pure, free and spotless. The Ātma has no connection with anything at all.
