Passage 12

In plain words

It is on the basis of the Ātma that all these go on being sustained. They go on living. There may be a father with no son, but in the world there is no son without a father, is there? There may be water with no fish, but fish cannot be without water. There may be an Ātma with no air and water, but air and water cannot be without the Ātma. These five elements are what take the Ātma as their support. The form of these five elements is itself the divine form of the Paramātma. To experience this great principle in the spirit of sacrifice is itself equal to enjoyment.

Every moment we are experiencing these five elements. If we hold our breath even for a moment, life chokes and gasps. Around us the air goes on moving all the time. In all the space around us, too, there is air without end. The eye does not see it. The hand cannot grasp it. In the same way, divinity is everywhere. Sarvataḥ pāṇipādaṃ… Though it is there wherever we look, the eye does not see it. The hand cannot grasp it. It is understood by experience alone. Fools take experience to be direct proof. It is not caught at all by direct proof. That is why they called God aprameya. In this tumbler there is water. We put sugar into it. In two minutes it dissolved. Where is that sugar? It is everywhere in the water. It is at the bottom, it is at the top, it is all around. But the eye does not see it. The hand cannot grasp it. If we put one drop on the tongue, then the tongue recognises the truth that it is there. That is, only to experience is it known that it is there; to direct proof it is not known at all. So when we enjoy Ānanda through sādhana, this itself is direct experience. So only when we carry on the search for the Ātma, long for Ānanda, carry out the right sādhanas for sāyujya and sāmīpya, and foster this principle of Prema, does that form of Prema manifest within us. In a heart with no Prema, the crop of Prema does not grow. When there is no crop of Prema, we do not see the fruit of Prema.

So that in deserts empty of Prema the shoots of Prema may grow, so that, in the rapture of Prema, a rain of the nectar of Prema may pour, so that rivers of Prema may flow, play the flute, play your song, O Kṛṣṇa!
