Passage 12

In plain words

We are students. The responsibility to parents, the responsibility to society, the responsibility to the country, the responsibility of this life: we must bear them all. Only when we bear responsibility of this kind do rights come to us naturally. So what students must keep in mind first is responsibility. If we bear responsibility, rights come to us automatically. When we abandon responsibility, rights do not come at all. So, students! To recognise the supreme goal of life in our life, these six disciples went on asking six questions. To each question Pippalāda gives a fine answer.

These answers are greatly needed by these students, in whom the ways of Kali are present. For the students are falling under the influence of Kali. They follow the influence of the conditions of the countries. They give no thought at all to the purity of their own hearts. We keep casting our vision outward all the time. We must cast our vision inward too. The power of the inner vision itself turns into the outer vision. That is reflection of the inner being. Reflection of the inner being is needed. Only then will our balance be right. Students have a great deal of intelligence, but they do not grow that intelligence rightly and in proper order. They do not skill it in the right way. They kill that intelligence. Only because of the killing does the balance go. So first of all we must set the balance right. For this we must develop inner Jñāna. This is a tree. Look. This tree has borne fruit. Its shadow is here. If we go on climbing only this shadow, only shadow fruits come into our hands. But the real fruit does not come to us. This is the real one. This is reality. That is the shadow. Today we are experiencing only the shadow. Because we experience the shadow, only the shadow's fruit comes to us. But if we go on climbing the real tree, we climb the shadow. The shadow's fruit comes to the shadow. Reality's fruit comes to reality. To the object the object comes. To the reflection the reflection comes. We must experience that by following which we come to experience both.
