In plain words

Not knowing the meaning of the names that were given, they lead a laughable life. Now there is a passage in the Veda, 'Candramā manaso jātaḥ cakṣoḥ sūryo ajāyata'. There is a moon. Who is the moon? When we enquire in this worldly, physical science, there is someone called the moon. They go to the moon and come back. Saying there is no God there, they make themselves a kind of laughing-stock. The moon is not merely a small part of earth that we see. The moon is the principle of our mind. In our eyes is the brilliance of the sun. By this very brilliance of the sun we are able to see the divinity that is manifold. No one can decide that its power, its sacred strength, is such or such. Though the eye is within half an inch, it can see stars that are crores of miles away. Where did this power come from? If the power of the sun had not truly entered into it, how could it see that very sun? It has a reaction, resound, reflection with it. What is the bond between this sun and the eyes? When the two unite, like negative and positive joining, only then can he see all this that is seen. If there is only negative, no result comes from it. If there is only positive, no result of any kind comes. The two must be joined. If, thinking we have eyes, we go into a dark room and open our eyes, no thing is seen. Or if, thinking there is light, we close our eyes, no thing is seen. That light and the sight of these eyes must both be joined. Through the joining of these two, they show forth the form of things. The joining of sunlight and the light of the eye, that is the creation of the world. So from where does the whole of creation appear to us? It appears from sight. Without sight there is no creation. So sight is most needed. There are no faults at all in creation. All of it lies in the sight alone. So we must keep our sight pure. This very thing the Upaniṣads have taught well. In the eye are your śāstras. Your sight itself is this creation. They teach you to strengthen the bond and kinship between these two. That is why, through the Upaniṣads, we can learn so much that we cannot learn in any physical science.
