Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The culture of Bhārata proclaimed that the feeling of the one Ātma in all is higher than the brotherhood of all. Equality, wholeness, unity and brotherhood: the culture of Bhārata is the inner voice of these four. So the feeling of the one Ātma in all is higher than brotherhood, and greater. So broad a feeling is not to be found in any religion, in any country, in any age.

Bhārata proclaimed to the world the broad feeling that the universe is the form of Viṣṇu

Such a national feeling the people of Bhārata alone have, from ancient times, been experiencing, practising, spreading and teaching. The people of Bhārata have been shaping this very feeling into a spiritual institution. A principle belonging to this philosophy is not to be found in any other country or in any other religion. Is it foolishness to love all living beings? Is it foolishness to love all beings alike? Truly, it is those who cannot recognise this Satya who are the fools; the people of Bhārata are not fools. The people of Bhārata do not worship out of foolish belief or blind belief. It is Bhārata that developed the broad feeling ‘The universe is the form of Viṣṇu’, spread and taught it to other countries too, and brought about lasting peace and security.

Even among the people of Bhārata, some fools who could not recognise this Satya gave it perverse meanings, took it in a harmful sense, and went about spreading and teaching that. Every person of Bhārata is an heir to our sacred culture! Every person of Bhārata has the right to follow this sacred culture to the letter, to practise it and to enjoy it. But today they have forgotten such broad feelings. They have gone on developing narrow feelings. This is nothing but the sign of selfishness and self-interest! The man of today labours for selfishness and self-interest. He makes no effort at all toward the broad principle of society, or the broad principle of the culture of Bhārata.
