Passage 2

In plain words

It had no lack of political leaders, of patriots or of scientists. But it was only because there was no unity among them that Bhārata had to suffer so many hardships. Unity is the chief principle. Unity is most essential among the people of Bhārata. The people of Bhārata won independence, but they are failing to win unity. The reason: the broad outlook is sinking lower, little by little. Regional prejudices, the enmities of caste and creed, and selfish private interests have run rampant and are making the strength of the nation sink lower day by day. More than this, the want of the broad feeling among all the people of Bhārata that they belong to one nation and one culture has also become a cause of these miseries.

All the people together must foster the integrity and unity of the country

Embodiments of Prema! Dharmaja said one thing: ‘When others come against us in war, we are a hundred and five brothers. But when a difference arises among ourselves, the Pāṇḍavas are five and the Kauravas a hundred.’ When we enquire once into this broad outlook, when problems that concern the country arise, we are all brothers. Everyone must work in unity. When personal hatred arises, it is something that concerns one individual and another. So the time has come when all the people of Bhārata must stand together and fight as one, like brothers, for the country's prosperity, for the country's unity, for the country's welfare. For a country, for a society, equality, union, integrity and brotherhood are like four pillars. On these four pillars alone the mansion of the nation of Bharata stands secure. If any one of them weakens, the building collapses into a heap. So the people must foster the integrity and unity of the country in the right way. Human beings alone are the support of the divinity and the holiness that are in humanness. What is a human being?
