Passage 11

In plain words

But first one must recognise the way to purify it. Even the works done by human effort must be done well. If you pour water over your head while wiping your feet with a Turkish towel, what is the use? If on one side we try to purify the Gaṅgā while letting all the drainage water from the city flow into the Gaṅgā, how will it ever become pure? First we must stop that. We must make another, proper way for it. In the same way, we must send the bad feelings that arise in the mind along another path, and try to purify the bad feelings that have gathered with the holy Name. Every person must sing aloud during the bhajan. The tongue of one who does not sing is nothing but a frog's tongue! A frog keeps croaking with its mouth open; what use is that? The tongue was given for remembering the Name, and for that alone! So every person must remember the Name with fitting śraddhā and Bhakti, and through it experience Ānanda, make this air holy, and set about the work of doing good to the country.
