Passage 3

In plain words

In that house there lived a maid called Rambhā. One day he went to the maid: ‘Rambhā! I am afraid,’ he told her. Rambhā said, “Say ‘Rāma, Rāma’; remember the Name of Rāma. Through this remembrance of the Name of Rāma your fear will go away.” From that day on, Gandhi kept remembering the Name of Rāma. The Name of Rāma he began in boyhood: even at his last moment, he ended his life with the Name of Rāma itself. More than that, by this very Name of Rāma, without war of any kind, holding to Ahiṃsā, he went on to achieve his resolve in the end. The root cause of such a holy life is the parents themselves.

The root cause of the country being in such a plight today is the parents and the teachers!

Unfortunately, because parents in these times are not pure of heart and right saṃskāras are not in them, the wicked, the evil and those of evil conduct are increasing day by day all over the world. When parents today rise from sleep abusing each other, the sons born to them rise from sleep hitting each other. Under the sway of Kali, the parents of today are turning into mothers like Kalahakaṇṭhī and fathers like Hiraṇyakaśipu. Because such parents are multiplying, Bhārata has fallen into great unrest, and lawlessness and misconduct keep growing. In former times many grew up virtuous, of good conduct and on the right path, and spread the fame of Bhārata over the whole world. ‘The quilt to suit the sackcloth,’ as the saying goes: today children are born to suit their parents. As the tree, so the seed; as the seed, so the tree. So the root cause of the wickedness and wrong conduct of today's children is the parents themselves! No parents today teach their children to speak Satya, to walk by Dharma, to win a good name. The country is falling into ill repute precisely because such wicked parents are multiplying.
