Passage 11

In plain words

What is this education? What is this Vijñāna? Is killing others Vijñāna? No, no: Vijñāna is what uplifts the country. Merely giving it the name ‘science, science’, they are reducing the country to ashes. No great effort is needed to harm others. Even a snake bites a man and kills him. Even a scorpion stings a man and kills him. When snakes, scorpions, worms and insects kill, what greatness is there in this scientist killing people? Drop a single bomb, they say, and the whole world will turn to ashes! The Vijñāna that says, ‘In those ashes he too will turn to ash,’ is vanishing. So they said, ‘Ruin no one, or you will be ruined.’ Kinds of learning that ruin others are not great at all. Learning that fills the belly by cheating others is no learning. Nourish virtue; spread virtue!

Only by their faith in God could the Pāṇḍavas gain happiness and Śānti

Today you may be boys. Tomorrow you may have families. Only when you are good will your sons be good too. If you yourself are not right, only seeds that suit the tree will come. To you too will be born sons who bring ill fame. If we fall away from Prema for God, demons will be born as our sons. So make the effort it takes to attain Prema for God. Worldly happiness and pleasures are passing. They are not lasting. We must attain Prema for God, which is Satya and eternal. The country is falling into so many troubles precisely because it has lost that. In the past the country never fell into so many troubles. In those days people lived only for justice, for Dharma, for Satya, for God. That is why Kṛṣṇa taught Arjuna: “Dharma and God, these two alone matter to you. Even if you are banished to the forests, it does not matter. Arjuna! Follow Dharma; have faith in God.” Because the Pāṇḍavas had faith in God from that day to the very end, they gained every happiness and every Śānti.
