In plain words
No, no. One alone is the basis of all numbers. For example, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 makes 9. This one is the base. All this manyness merges back into oneness! In the same way, what is this thing called humanness?
Human life is the rest between birth and death
What is human life? Our life is the rest between birth and death. But in this time of rest we fall prey to desires of many kinds. What man says is one thing, what he does is another. What he thinks is one thing, what he practises is another. What he strives for is one thing, the result is another. What is the reason? He does not put what he has thought into practice in the form of action. Human life is full of many ideals. Moment by moment man resolves to show forth many aims as his ideals. But he does not set about acting according to that resolve. Saying is one thing, doing is one thing, thinking is another. That is why man falls prey to sorrows, unrest and troubles of many kinds. The reason: his life gives no satisfaction even to himself. For a man with no self-satisfaction, everything is unrest! When do we gain this self-satisfaction? Only when these three are made one does self-satisfaction come. To say what we have thought, and to practise what we have said. But today thinking is one thing and practising another.
Every trouble man goes through is a step that takes him to a higher state!
Today in the world man falls prey to troubles of many kinds. Do these troubles begin in order to torment man, or do they arise in order to take him to a higher state? Every trouble is a step that takes man to a higher state! So a man with no troubles has no proper teaching at all. His troubles themselves are his proper teachings. That is why they said, ‘Between two troubles lies a happiness.’
