In plain words
The banyan tree is very big. But its seed is very small. The two are bound to each other inseparably, each resting on the other. The two are only different forms; they are not separate. The tree is the seed in its full-grown form. The seed is the tree in its small form.
Will alone is the cause of success and failure
‘Saṅkalpa vikalpātmakaṃ manaḥ.’ Man's life is made up of resolving and wavering. So we must use those resolves in the right way. Man goes on making resolves as they occur to him. If those resolves are fulfilled, he is satisfied. If these resolves fail, he is dissatisfied. ‘Why does this fail? Why does it succeed?’ Man does not look into this question. In each case it fails only because of a flaw in himself. It succeeds because a pure feeling arises in his heart. Will alone is the cause of success and failure. The world itself is made of resolving and wavering. If you will it and open your eyes, you can see the whole universe. If, without willing, you close your eyes, no form at all appears to you. Our eyes are our scriptures. Our vision itself is this creation. So all creation is contained in our vision itself. ‘Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati’: only when our feelings are noble does the fruit we gain take shape as noble.
Man's fame and honour have all come from society itself
In the world we receive the help of many people. Without this help, man could never rise to a high state. The moment we are born, the mother gives us milk, brings us up and nourishes us. When he has grown, the father and the teacher give him a proper place and teach him learning and good sense. Then friends gather round and throw him into ties and relationships of many kinds in the world.
