In plain words
Chāndbhāī Patel too was tired. He sat down under the tree, beside the fakir. Bābā had a chillum with Him. He needed fire. He struck the ground with the stick in His hand. Fire came. The chillum needed water. Again He struck with the stick. Water came. Using the water and the fire, He made the chillum ready. He gave it to Chāndbhāī Patel as well. ‘Where have you come to, and why are you going?’ He asked. ‘You have put on only the saddle; what has become of the horse? Are you the horse yourself?’ He said. He grew very sad. Seeing that this was a great soul, he said, ‘I am taking this saddle as a keepsake.’ ‘Chī! Look, go! Your horse is right under the tree nearby,’ He said. When he went there and looked, the horse came toward him, neighing as it looked at him. He took the horse and put the saddle on it. ‘Swami! In return for Your kindness You must accept my hospitality. You must come to our village,’ he said. He seated Him behind him and reached the village of Dhūp. It was in that very village of Dhūp that Bābā stayed for 3 years. Nobody knew. Then a marriage was settled for Chāndbhāī Patel's nephew. The bride's village was Shirdi. The wedding was to take place there. Everyone yoked up their carts and went to Shirdi. In 1858 Bābā set foot in Shirdi once more. Everyone was getting down from the carts. Bābā too got down. Nobody knew His name. Mahalsāpati saw Him and said, ‘Come, Sāī!’ ‘Sāī’ is the name he gave. From then until 1918 Bābā did not leave Shirdi.
While Bābā was in Shirdi, a police officer called Dās Gaṇu used to come and go to Shirdi. He was working in Kopargaon. He was a good man, but he used to abuse those who came and went to Shirdi. He kept mocking that so many people were going to a fakir. He used to sing fine songs. Even at the station he would be singing something or other. Now and then he also gave harikathās. A fine voice. People came in great numbers to hear his songs. Now and then he would tell people to put their trust in God, but he told them they must not go to this fakir. This news reached Bābā.
