So life depends on man. In this humanness a change must take place. Today political change is going on. Scientific change is going on. Economic change is going on. Along with all these changes, a change of mind is also needed. Along with this change of mind, spiritual change must come. However old one grows, if there is no change of mind at all, there is no use. Humanness depends on the mind. Only when the mind is good does man become good. What is the mind? The gathering of thoughts alone is the mind. What are thoughts? Merely the actions that take place in our daily life! Only when these actions change do thoughts change. Only when these thoughts change does the mind change. Today our actions are not as they ought to be. Our actions must be carried out in a very sacred way. Only then will humanness turn into divinity.
Our life must rise to a higher level day by day, and must not slide down
Students! You must transform your conduct, your words and your mental nature well. You must bring them to ripeness. Our life must rise only to a higher level day by day; it must not slide down. One should not say it in front of him, but in this kind of progress our Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma has risen to a very high state. Before this he received a fine education, in an institution of higher learning. He gained fine refinement. In public service he began as MLA and MP. He became a state minister. He became a central minister. He came as Governor. From Governor he became Vice-President. From Vice-President he became President. See! To what a height he has risen! Each time he went on rising step by step, and never fell back. In the lives of others there have been ups and downs; but in Shankar Dayal Sharma, his own culture, his own faith and his own sacred feeling alone brought him to a high state.
