In plain words
Holding that ‘Jananī janmabhūmiśca svargādapi garīyasi’, he has lived with faith in his motherland and has served his mother with devotion. His mother is still living. Even today he bows to his aged mother, and only after that does he enter upon his own work. That is precisely why high positions have come to him, in keeping with his character. He never wished at all for the office of President. He did not go to anyone and ask. He trusted in God. ‘If that power is to be given to me, God Himself will give it’: so he laid the responsibility on God. This sacredness comes only to one who does not ask!
Ask for nothing, O mind, knowing that the more you ask, the lower it sinks, and that if you do not ask, the work is quickly done. (Ask for nothing…) Did He not cherish Śabarī, who never asked? Jaṭāyu, who died asking nothing for himself: did He not go to him at the last and grant him a blessed end? (Ask for nothing…)
One may truly say that his becoming President is the good fortune of the people of Bhārata. Nor did he wish for the office of Prime Minister. He made no efforts for it. In fact he did not even stand in the election. Even so, the office came seeking him out and chose him. Those who put him forward gave him complete victory in every way. This is the great distinction of this year. When the people of Bhārata first gained independence, Babu Rajendra Prasad stood in Rashtrapati Bhavan as head of the state. What was the mark of that Rajendra Prasad? He entered Rashtrapati Bhavan wearing a Congress cap. After all these years, now Sharma, wearing the same kind of cap, has again entered Rashtrapati Bhavan. All must pray that such people remain in Bhārata for some time yet, see to the welfare of the people of Bhārata, serve them and so become blessed themselves.
