Passage 15

In plain words

People have been praying to Vināyaka to grant a humanness endowed with Prajñāna, Vijñāna and Sujñāna. In today's education there is no Prajñāna, no Vijñāna, no Sujñāna. We drive our chariot along with only these two, bookish knowledge and practical knowledge. Bookish knowledge: how long does it last? Today, tomorrow; after that, what becomes of it? It vanishes. We need not go that far. We enter the examination hall. Until you enter the examination hall, you keep chewing over all you have read. You put it all into this paper and write it out. After the examinations are over, you forget all you have read. This learning is gone by the time you come out of the examination hall. Will such a thing stay with us all our life? None of this learning is learning; one may call it ignorance. To be proud of getting an ‘O’ grade in everything and to strut about: this is Ajñāna itself! What is this ‘O’ grade? This ‘O’ grade has two meanings. One is the first-class grade. Turn that same mark back into a zero. Is it a zero or a first class? We cannot say at all. Pass or fail? It stands as the sign of both. So all of it is zero! Draw a small zero; draw a big zero; however big you make it, it is still zero! But put a one beside it. That very thing gains value. Life is zero! God is hero! If you forget the Paramātma, all these become zero! God alone we must never forget. Hero becomes zero if he forgets GOD. If we keep the feeling of God in our heart without forgetting Him, and go on doing all our karmas as our strength allows, that itself gives value to humanness. Whatever work you do, regard it as God's work! We must not give up work. We must do our work without fail. Work will be transformed into worship. This does not mean giving up the karma we have to do and praying. Nor does it mean giving up prayer and doing karma. We must make the two one.
