Passage 15

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must develop Emperor Bali's qualities. We must develop the charity Emperor Bali showed. Like Emperor Bali, we must offer ourselves to God. Many people do japa, saying ‘Rām, Rām’. How far do these devotees of Rāma practise Rāma's qualities? Rāma's very first dharma was obeying His father's word! In these days, who acts according to his father's command? Love for His brothers was abundant in Rāma. Today how far are brothers close to one another. Do they love one another? Out of hatred and envy for each other they go as far as the Supreme Court. Is this the dharma Rāma showed? One who is a devotee of Rāma must try to practise at least one or two of Rāma's qualities. Devotees of Kṛṣṇa must practise at least one or two of Kṛṣṇa's words. When we think of ourselves as sādhakas of Emperor Bali, we must experience at least one or two of Emperor Bali's feelings. Only then will the sacred power in this Onam enter into us. Today we merely celebrate the birthdays of great men. What is the result of these birthdays? Filling ourselves with pāyasam and sweet rice! This is not what true birthdays are. We must bring their qualities into ourselves. We must make their qualities be born in us. That is the true inner meaning of holy days.

The principle that neither comes nor goes is true faith in God

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! Since ancient times the people in the kingdom of Kerala have not given up their own traditions; practising their own customs, whatever outward upheavals have arisen, on the whole three parts of them have kept following their tradition. In the past people used to say that the state of Kerala was a Communist state, an atheist state. No, no, it is a state of believers. They are playing all sorts of games in some political schemes, but that is not the truth. This is merely a political game!
