Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

This bowing is in order to perform sacred karma. But what is the inner meaning of worshipping Prakṛti, which is the three guṇas?

The purity of the trikaraṇas is the way to win God's grace

A pure heart, pure speech, pure deeds: these are the very forms of the three guṇas. They are known by another name too, ‘the trikaraṇas’. This purity of the trikaraṇas is the root cause of God's grace. This is what was said: The proper study of mankind is man. Who is this man? He alone is man who is made pure by the oneness of these three, heart, speech and action. So the heart is Lakṣmī, the embodiment of every kind of wealth; speech is Sarasvatī, the embodiment of the goddess of speech; the power of action is Durgā. That is why they said ‘Manasyekam, vacasyekam, karmaṇyekam mahātmanam’. Devī Navarātri began so that man may live as man and root out his Ajñāna. This body is born within Prakṛti. Here there are two kinds of Prakṛti. Parā Prakṛti and aparā Prakṛti. What is aparā Prakṛti? It is what is made up of lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and envy, and of citta and Manas. There is another too. It is what is made up of the five kośas, the annamaya, prāṇamaya, manomaya, vijñānamaya and ānandamaya, and of Manas, Buddhi, citta and Ahaṅkāra. But all these too are aparā Prakṛti! Parā Prakṛti is life itself. Even though all the marks of aparā Prakṛti are in the body, if life is not in it, it becomes a mere corpse. That is caitanya. That caitanya is parā Prakṛti.

When moha wanes away, Mukti is gained

In former times the whole world together had a population of a hundred crores. Now the population has grown to 540 crores. But though the population has grown, the longing for liberation in these people has shrunk.
