In plain words
So first of all Satyabhāmā's envy had to be rooted out. That is the weighing of Kṛṣṇa on the scales. When Nārada came to the house, this Satyabhāmā had one wish alone! ‘Nārada! Teach me some japa, some tapas, some yajña, some mantra, some tantra for Kṛṣṇa to become mine,’ she would ask. All this was Kṛṣṇa's master plan. Nārada taught her well. ‘Mother! There is a vrata for making Kṛṣṇa yours for ever. If you keep it, Kṛṣṇa will become yours alone. Then He will be no one else's. Can you keep that vrata?’ Nārada asked. ‘To make Kṛṣṇa mine, I will keep any vrata at all. With the Śyamantaka gem my father gave me, many tons of gold come every day. I have all the wealth I need. I can keep any vrata,’ she said with Ahaṅkāra. So Ahaṅkāra too joined her envy. When these two came together, bad feelings past all holding began. It was then that Nārada told her to keep the vrata called ‘the gift of the husband’. ‘Keep that vrata for three days, and on the fourth day you must give your husband away to someone as a gift. If you give the one who received the gift wealth equal to Him and take your husband back, your husband will be yours and no one else's,’ he said. Satyabhāmā swelled with pride that she would take Kṛṣṇa back and make Kṛṣṇa hers alone for ever. She kept the vrata. When the three days were over, she had to give Kṛṣṇa to someone as a gift. ‘Nārada! To whom shall I give Him?’ she asked. Then Nārada: ‘Satyabhāmā! Why fret? Am I not here? Just give Him to me,’ he said. ‘What greater fortune could there be! What a fortune it is to give my husband as a gift to Nārada, the mind-born son of Brahmā, and to take Him back from Nārada himself,’ she rejoiced. On the scales, Kṛṣṇa sat on one side. On the second side she brought her jewels and set them down. Lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and envy, the tamo guṇa and the rajo guṇa: eight. Then eight more, the eight kinds of pride. Eight and eight together became the 16 kalās. These sixteen kalās are in every human being. When it is said that God has sixteen kalās, God is the embodiment of the Ātma.
