In plain words
This is not right. Only when we practise their ideals do we celebrate their true birthday! Rejecting their ideals, forgetting their practices, pushing aside their way of living, paying no heed to their doctrines, and going on keeping their birthday festivals: how artificial this is! Today, in all religions, people keep the holy days merely artificially and enjoy themselves, but they do not make the effort it takes to recognise the real, worthwhile path of Satya. Forgetting the living and believing in the lifeless, they do many kinds of good deeds for selfish ends and self-interest. This is not what Jesus taught. The very first of Jesus' teachings: we must love all beings. Compassion is the chief path. Prema is the chief principle. Kindness is the chief observance. Only when we follow such a path is there any worth in keeping the festival of Christmas. So first of all we must paint Jesus' teachings within our hearts. Then they must be reflected in every act we do.
Pravṛtti belongs to the head; nivṛtti belongs to the heart
What is true worship? Reflection of the inner being. To bring out what is within and experience it: that is true worship. Today we do not bring out what is within. We are sending in what is outside. All that is outside is impermanent, transient, untrue! All this is pravṛtti. True nivṛtti is within. Pravṛtti is all bound up with the head. Nivṛtti is all joined to the heart. So worship with the heart. Worship with Prema. The chief seat of Prema is the heart! Because you worship with the head, this has become a mere dwelling of show. This is like mere clouds of wind! The clouds of Prema are within.
