In plain words
But what is the root cause of so many kinds of resolves arising in the mind? Even one who has conquered Indra is small if he has not conquered his senses! Who is Indra? The master of the senses is Indra. Who is the master of the senses? The mind. So the mind is Indra. If we keep such an Indra within us and make war on an Indra somewhere outside, what result will come of it? So first of all there must be control of the mind. Only one who has mastered the mind can reach Mādhava. The root cause of this is the influence of the bad feelings, bad thoughts, bad plans and bad company that grow without end in the young today. Young men and young women must recognise this well. Who is the cause of the bad feelings, bad thoughts, sorrows, bad plans and bad deeds that arise in us? Go down deep and think it over well. The root cause of everything is food! It is through food that the feelings of the mind have taken endless shapes. Prakṛti outside draws the mind. When you want a fitting example of this, you can recognise its inner meaning in the very pleasures the young men and women of today enjoy in their daily life.

Today there are TVs in every home. Those who are richer have colour TVs. Those who are richer still have Star TV. They have them not only in the drawing room but in the dining hall and the bedroom too. The day these TVs began in the world, that very day man's mind became polluted. Think it over well. Before the TVs came, our weakness of mind was not this great. Bad feelings did not arise in the mind in such numbers. Before they began, we had never seen or heard of bad deeds like these. There used to be one in a hundred, one in a crore, somewhere.
