In plain words
Allah, Rāma or Christ: God is all one! ‘One Lord has many names.’ The goal is one! Give no room at all to differences of race and religion, or to quarrels. Let no one say, your religion, my religion. Whoever says ‘your religion, my religion’ has lost his senses! We must not keep up the difference of yours and mine. The feeling ‘ours, ours: our religion, our country’ must come; give no room to the narrow ‘my country, my language’, to selfishness. Let such separateness go, and oneness begin in us. The vyaṣṭi is the jīva; the samaṣṭi is God. God means the samaṣṭi. The vyaṣṭi is only the jīva. Only when such vyaṣṭis join together does it become God. With the hope and blessing that all of you go on growing the principle of Prema in a feeling of oneness with one another, on this sacred day of Śivarātri you must experience this very sacred and true principle of Śiva. This Śivarātri comes round once in a year. But the auspicious qualities within us stay with us always. ‘Always, at all times, everywhere, the thought of Hari’: this is the true śivaṃ. This is the true night. Night means darkness. What drives away darkness is śivaṃ. Śivarātri means what drives away darkness. That is, Śivarātri is what roots out ignorance. Believing in this way, ridding yourselves of bad qualities, developing good conduct and right behaviour, and becoming worthy of the grace of the Lord of all, you will become embodiments of the Lord of all, for ‘The knower of Brahman becomes Brahman’: with this hope and blessing I bring my discourse to a close.
