Thus, everybody thinks that he is close to God. This cannot be called true devotion. You may proclaim yourself a devotee. But, did God say that you are His devotee? How can you call yourself a devotee before God accepts you as one? You send a registered letter to your friend. To confirm that he has received it, you should get an acknowledgment from him. Similarly, God should acknowledge that you are His devotee. Your conscience will tell you whether God has accepted you as His devotee. Your conscience itself is God.
