In plain words
When we think that we ourselves are the cause, there is no fear of anything. If happiness and hardship came to us through someone, there would have to be fear. When does fearlessness come? Fearlessness comes when there is full Prema. Fear takes hold only when there are faults. We must not give faults any room at all in us. As far as possible, whatever small task you do, make the discrimination, 'Is it good or bad?' Take time; do not hurry. haste makes waste waste makes worry. so do not be in a hurry. Whatever comes, stay calm. Keep God in mind. Develop Prema for God. That very Prema will turn into nectar for you. It drives sorrow away. It brings Ānanda. This itself is the learning we truly need to learn. We may study worldly learning. These are only the learning of nature. They are only supports for living on the path of pravṛtti. 'The learning that brings gold, for happiness here; Brahma vidyā, for happiness hereafter.' We must have both these kinds of learning. They are like negative and positive. All the learning of nature is negative. We have filled our heart to the brim with negative learning. But what we hope for is positive. Impossible. What is the reason? We are filling ourselves with the negative. How can we ask for the positive? You have no right at all. First fill your heart with the positive; then you will get everything. These kinds of learning of Prakṛti belong to Prakṛti. Brahma vidyā is the one that belongs to the supreme principle. It meets no obstacles of any kind. Our life must enter right between these two.
Students! Many of you play football. It has a system. There are six on that side and six on this side. At the ends they set up two goals. They set a limit here and a limit there. When the ball goes between these two, it is a goal. Desire, anger, greed, pride and envy, six of them, are on one side. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā are on the other side. Both sides are kicking the ball called life. Learning for this world and learning for the next: these are the limits. If you kick the ball called life between these two, it becomes a goal. If it goes to that side or this side, it is out, not a goal. Study the learning of nature. Reach a high place in it too. But making it a support, you must learn the divine learning too. Of all kinds of learning, the learning of the Self. All worldly learning is like small rivers and like canals.
