In plain words
What more is needed than this? Without faith in God, whatever you do is of no use. We brought good vegetables, we found a good cook. Fine dal, salt, tamarind, a good vessel: with these we cooked sāmbār. But the sāmbār went bad. It took on verdigris. What is the reason? Is it the fault of the tamarind? The fault of the vegetables? A fault in the dal? Because the vessel had no tinning, it all went bad. We do japa, tapas, dhyāna, yoga, all of these. If there is no tinning in the vessel called the heart, it all goes bad. The tinning called Prema must stay in this vessel. Without Prema, however many ways you cook, it goes bad. The whole tree is flourishing. With fruit and flowers. Today it looks splendid. The next day it withered. What is the reason? A grub bit its root. That is not seen. However much our life may flourish with happiness and peace, if there is no grace of God, if the root-grub called bad qualities gets in, it withers. Who are the enemies of our life? Desire, anger and greed are the enemies. The reason: desire spoils karma. Anger spoils Bhakti. Greed spoils Jñāna. They spoil all three, karma, upāsana and Jñāna. When the three are spoiled, what use is there? So we must enter the path of karma, or else the path of upāsana, or else the path of Jñāna. Without the three there is no use at all. A man in form only, not a man in conduct.
Students, embodiments of Prema! Develop Prema. Concentrate on Prema. Do not concentrate on things that are not needed. Study your lessons well. Get good marks. Make your mother and father happy. Give them the peace that is their due.
