Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Drive out this delusion. Brahman will spring up in you. Divinity is not separate.

That divine principle is in everyone. There is no such thing as its being in one and not in another. Īśvaras sarva bhūtānāṃ. Students must recognise this Satya well. In what form is Īśvara there? He is there in the form of Prema. Prema is in everyone. That is what I have been saying many times: ‘Prema Īśvar hai, Īśvar Prema hai’; Prema itself is Īśvara, Īśvara Himself is Prema. This sacred Prema itself is the very form of the Paramātma. This Prema must not be bound up with the objects of the senses. There must be no Prema bound up with the world. It must be Prema bound up with the Ātma alone. The Ātma itself is Prema; Prema itself is the Ātma. Love is God. Live in Love. Students must recognise this principle of Prema first of all. But unfortunately students let their Prema flow in all sorts of directions and so fall into many kinds of unrest.

This youth is not lasting. They are clouds that come midway and go midway, clouds that move on. We must not be carried away by this youth and waste our life. This youth is very sacred. For the sake of a momentary pleasure we are wasting our precious humanness. This is what Śaṅkara said: ‘Mākuru dhanajana yavvana garvaṃ arati nimeṣā kālu sarvaṃ.’ In this youth many kinds of passion arise. We must try to subdue these passions. At a time of passion we must remember the Name of God. This is not a quality that befits this age. They are only passing clouds. My life is eternal. The heart itself is the sky. Manas itself is the moon. Buddhi is the sun. In the sky called the heart they are there; into it come the clouds called thoughts. In this youth, bad thoughts come into it. Dense clouds come. When these dense clouds come, the sun and the moon are not seen. For how long are they not seen? It is just a passing cloud. Have patience a little while. There must be no haste. Haste makes waste. Waste makes worry, so don't be in a hurry. At this age there must be no haste. You must be calm. There is no happiness greater than Śānti. Without Śānti there is no happiness, O lotus-eyed One, even for one who has mastered himself, even for one who knows Vedānta.
