In plain words
you must not keep changing. We must give room to the one God alone. That is what we must do today.
We see so much in the world. We go through so much. We hear of the experiences of so many people. But good and bad come from our own conduct, not from others. First of all we must shape our thoughts into pure thoughts. When any thought arises in us, is it good or bad: take time; if you find it is not good for you, give it up at once. But man today has no such patience. When any thought arises, he tries at once to act on it. Struck by Rāma's arrow, Rāvaṇa fell to the ground. Within a few minutes, before he gave up his life, many great sages came. So great a noble one, a great ascetic, one who had every power: they all gathered, wanting to know what his divine aim was. Rāvaṇa! What did you resolve in your life, and what did you achieve? they asked. Rāma's arrow had struck him, so his sin was wiped away. Lofty feelings arose in him. Unable to lift his hands, unable to lift them, he made namaskāra. O great ones! What shall I tell you? I had many resolves. But they could not come about; one thing alone must be grasped. When a good resolve comes in life, to do good, there must be no delay. You must set to work at once. You must not put off a good deed. Take no time at all over good deeds. The resolve and the deed, the two, must happen at one stroke. When bad feelings come, do not go near them. Take as much time as you like. I resolved. I resolved to turn sweet the water of the ocean that surrounds Laṅkā. Later, later, I said, and put it off. In the end I could not do that good deed. I resolved to send those suffering in hell to heaven, to make them happy beings. But saying later, later, I kept putting it off. I put off a good deed. I am dying. I am unable to do these good deeds. You at least, the moment good resolves come, put them into action. Do not waste time. Give no room to bad feelings and bad thoughts. That itself is the great, glorious deed the youth of today must do. The youth of today are the ones who will uplift the Bhārata to come. You must develop good feelings and earn the name of ideal citizens. When you live as an ideal citizen, you can live out the ideal to any extent. We can change any number of people; so we must
