In plain words

In food and in behaviour, dogs are low. God loves deer. We are sāttvic of heart. In body we have strength and ability. Why should we be afraid of dogs? We must not be afraid of dogs. From today!" With that they made a resolution. All the deer said to one another, "Certainly!" But in the forest a dog barked loudly. By the time the dog had barked, there was not a single deer left at the meeting. They had all run off. What resolutions these are! The moment it comes merely to putting them into action, all have fled! Today's words too are just like that. Words must not run to excess. Fled from work, ready for food. No, no. Ready for work. Fled from food. That is how it must be. You must be ready every moment for action.

This age is a very sacred age. A sweet age. We must not spoil these years. We must not waste them. We must not enter bad company. We must not let evil feelings enter. Entering good company, we must strive for God's Grace through good feelings, good thoughts, good conduct and good contemplation. Parents of every kind hope their son will earn a good name. They hope he will get a good class and a rank. Look today, and ranks there are in plenty. But look at the behaviour: blanks. It is the very opposite. No. No. There must be a rank in everything. No remarks of any other kind should come. When do all these come about? All the bad qualities grow through too much talk itself. When we meet anyone: hello, hello, How are you? good bye, and that is all. Beyond that, we must not talk too much. If we keep on talking endlessly, who knows what more will come out of us! Through endless talk we become weak. Because of this weakness we fail to gather strength for the tasks we have to do. So students must talk little, study much, and bring home high marks. When we talk little, sacred feelings enter us. We set this body to sacred tasks. Through talk, needless words keep coming. Through them we listen. What we have heard, we put into action. We must not speak ill of anyone at all. We must not hate anyone.

The valour of endless talk has grown great; the valour of action has wasted away and melted; life has grown heavy with pomp and show; this is all the life of today's student amounts to.
