Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So they thought. Then, this is something that happens as a test. In this test too some hardships have to arise. A pain called appendicitis came in the stomach. If this pain that has come is to go, one must bear the pain the doctor gives. The doctor cut with his knife. Is the doctor merciless? No. No. He did it out of mercy alone. Unless he cuts, the pain will not go. The pain that arose must be cured by the pain that is given. For what these human beings go through according to their karma, the tests God sets help to some extent. Whatever God does is only for good, never for harm. What is the reason? God is selfless. He knows no selfishness and no self-interest. When He does not know them, how can one say that He has them? He does not know selfishness; He does not know self-interest. Devotees imagine that He acts out of selfishness and self-interest. That is their delusion. So long as this delusion remains, it is not possible to recognise the awareness of Brahma. Unless bhrama goes, Brahma does not come. Bhrama lives in the heart. That heart is a single sofa. If you remove bhrama from the throne, Brahma goes and sits in it. You cannot seat the two of them, bhrama and Brahma, on the one throne. Under the sway of Kali they try to seat the two of them on the one throne. Even if you try to seat them, Brahma will not come. Because bhrama is there. When he is seated on that chair, that chair is his own. How can one sit in someone else's chair? Unless he gets up and goes, I will not sit. This too is a rule in the knowledge of Brahma. This is how the Paramātma reasons it out.

Even if there is not much learning, there must be character. If there is much character, it does not matter though learning be little. Why have ten acres of land that yields no crop? Ten square yards of good ground is enough. Even one good quality is enough. What is this good quality? Whatever is dear to God is good quality. This is just what the whole world praises. All the world: “This man is the very form of God! He lives with the quality of God!” they say. When one does nāmasmaraṇa as God commands, helps many people and engages in good deeds, many call him equal to God.
