In plain words
That is, this thumb: this is God. This is the sāttvika, this the rājasika, this the tāmasika. When you do japa, too, keep your sight on this sāttvika and do it in that way, with both the jīvātma and the Paramātma. Only then does concentration settle properly. Today people do japa with their sight on the jīvātma. From below, the three guṇas keep entering it. No; you must keep the three guṇas apart. The three guṇas must not join the jīvātma at all. Keep your sight on the sāttvika and do japa through the jīvātma and the Paramātma. How subtly the culture of Bhārata has handed all these down! This costs not a naya paisa. There is no labour of any kind. Always, even as you walk, do nāmasmaraṇa. Go on thinking of God! When you do so, even japa is unnecessary! Whatever work you do, think of it as God's work and do it. If you do it that way, Work will be transformed into worship. When you do it this way, how much Śānti there is in life! What is the reason there is no Śānti today? There is no faith, there is no Prema. A man has no faith even in himself. How will Prema come to you? Prema is not a thing to be picked up in the bazaar.
You are not other than God
So our very svarūpa is Prema. You are the embodiment of love. You are the embodiment of peace. You are the embodiment of truth. You are the embodiment of GOD. You are not other than God. God Himself is you. So remember yourself. Give your heart over to God. The Ānanda that comes to you when you make them one cannot be told. It is known only when it is experienced. Go to a dumb man and ask, ‘How is the sugarcane?’: he cannot tell you. In the same way, if you ask a man who has never seen the ocean what the ocean is like, what can he say? ‘Wherever you look it is all water,’ he says. Who can describe the ocean? That is why: satyasya satyam. To attain Satya, you must join it with Satya itself. What is ghee like? It is just like ghee. There is nothing else to compare it with. So if you ask what God is like, God is like Prema itself. If you ask what Prema is like, it is like Prema itself.
