Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But we must connect all these with the heart. If you merely say ‘Rām, Rām’ with the lips, it is like a tape recorder speaking. That feeling must arise from the heart. That, they said, is trikaraṇa-śuddhi. Thoughts, words, actions: the three must become one. That is: the proper study of mankind is man. Such mankind must come into us! Only then does God move, and melt.

Man, who sets a price on all things, has fallen in value today

We must pray to receive the Prema of God, to receive the grace of God, and not for the praise of ten people. We must fill the mind with such a subtle feeling. In the world there are many problems. Wherever you look, unrest. Wherever you look, turmoil. Wherever you look, quarrels. What is the reason? Selfishness has gone beyond all bounds. People have forgotten good name and honour. They have forgotten humanness itself. They have wholly forgotten human values. Today every object has a value, but man is losing his value. In truth, no one has as much value as man. We must live as human beings. Who gives a precious gem its value? We ourselves set its value. Who sets the value of precious gold? Man himself sets its value. Without man, a diamond has no value. Gold has no value. Man, who gives such value, has fallen in value today. Students must recognise this truth well and act on it. Men are more valuable than all the wealth of the World. Gold is not the precious thing, the diamond is not the precious thing; man is the precious one. In a town where people live, they value the land at so many thousand rupees a yard. But go to a forest, and if you give ten rupees they give you an acre. What is the reason? No people move about there. Where there are no people, there is no value. Only where there are people does the value rise. By what has this value risen? It has risen through man. We must see that this truth stays in mind every moment. You must believe, ‘I am precious; I am not a cheap man, I am the Chief’.
