In plain words
Students! Born in so sacred a land as Bhārata, we must try to develop character as well as intelligence. Intelligence gets some tasks done, but character is not like that. It earns a good name. These two alone are what we must earn! In this life, these two alone are true and lasting. What are they? ‘Dharma and a good name, these two are lasting; life in the world is passing.’ All the rest are impermanent. They are all like passing clouds. He was born. The moment he was born they called him ‘child’. After 10 years they said ‘boy’. At 30 yrs they said ‘man’. At 75 yrs they called him ‘grand father’. Yet child, boy, man, grand father are one and the same! There is only the one person. Differences of this kind have kept arising according to age. In the world today there is one precious power that God has given! That is time. Time is very important. Don’t waste time. Time waste is life waste. Time is GOD. ‘Kālāya namaḥ, kāla-kālāya namaḥ, kāla-darpa-damanāya namaḥ, kālātītāya namaḥ, kāla-svarūpāya namaḥ.’ For birth and death, time itself is the chief thing. When someone passes away, they say his time has run out. The fruit that forms on a tree ripens through time alone.
