Passage 3

In plain words

The whole of life is a practice. To put on a small drama, people practise for ten days beforehand. So: World is like a stage, all are actors, God is director. All this needs practice. Divinity is acquired only in spirituality. In every man there is what we call goodness. Goodness itself is the fire of Jñāna. Because we neglect to keep our attention on that fire and forget it, ash is covering the fire. Where did this ash come from? It came from the fire itself. The ash that came from the fire has covered the very fire. So what is covering the goodness in us? The ash that came from the fire called attachment, hatred and Ahaṅkāra is covering it. In every person there is goodness. Plato spoke of this in three words. Truth, goodness and beauty. In the Upaniṣads of Bhārata they called this very thing ‘Satyaṃ, Śivaṃ, Sundaraṃ’. In every man there is the goodness called Divinity. There is no man in the world without this goodness. But attachment and hatred are covering that goodness. As a result, we are unable to recognise that Divinity. When we want to recognise that Divinity, we must remove this dust that has covered it: Ahaṅkāra, attachment, hatred and the rest.

One who searches for himself is a fool

Students! There is no other path as easy as spirituality. You will not find anything easier than this anywhere in the world. Crushing this rose may be a little hard. But understanding spirituality is easier than that. What is the reason? It is right within oneself; there is no more need to search outside. Searching is needless. Then how are you to search for it? Only if it were somewhere outside would you have to search. It is not outside. It is right within oneself; He is there as one's very self.

Students! Do you ever go searching for yourselves somewhere outside? No one searches for himself. You can call one who searches for himself nothing but a fool. So you yourself are God.
