Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

‘Conduct yourself so that nothing at all goes against Rāma, my son! See that Rāma suffers not the least pain in His mind. If He feels any pain at all in His mind, the whole world feels pain. For the One who is everywhere is God. If God's mind suffers any hurt at all, the whole world suffers hurt.’ What a fine teaching Sumitrā gave!

A devotee must be a sthitaprajña, untouched by change and shift of any kind

In the Kṛṣṇa Avatāra Balarāma was always right at Kṛṣṇa's side. But Uddhava was a friend. Uddhava was Kṛṣṇa's dearest friend. Where Kṛṣṇa was, Balarāma might be there as a companion, but Uddhava kept close behind Him like a shadow. That is why, before He left His body, Kṛṣṇa called only Uddhava: ‘Look, now troubles of this kind will begin. In the Yādava clan the strife of the pestle will begin. First take all the women and go away to Hastināpura,’ He said. To that Uddhava said, ‘I will not go.’ ‘I will stay with You alone,’ he said. Then there was no way left to persuade him. He called Arjuna and told him, ‘You take them away.’ No one is to stay here. Arjuna took all of them, Yaśodā, Devakī Devī, Rukmiṇī and Satyabhāmā, and came away. Uddhava held Kṛṣṇa's feet and sat beneath a tree. ‘As long as You are here I will stay with You alone; if You go, I will go with You alone. I cannot bear to be parted from You,’ Uddhava pleaded. So Kṛṣṇa told Uddhava alone when He would leave His body. In Divinity there are many such secrets. There are many that are utterly secret. There are subtle ones too. Such things, the subtlest of the subtle, are whispered into the ear only of one who is a friend dear as life. They cannot be told to everyone. How can everyone understand what Divinity is?
